Hello everyone! This weeks “Song of the Week” goes to Blessings, by Laura Story. It is a very beautiful song about how God can use the trials of our lives as blessings in disguise. I hope you enjoy it.

(These tabs are a bit rough, but I hope you find them helpful though)

Song Title : Blessings
Artist/Band: Laura Story

Intro: C#m - B - F# - E - F# - D#m - C#m - B - F# - E

Verse 1
E F# G#m
We pray for blessings
E F# D#m
We pray for peace
E F# G#m A E
Comfort for family, protection while we sleep
E F# G#m
We pray for healing
E F# D#m
for prosper--ity
E F# G#m F#
We pray for Your mighty hand to ease our suffering
B E F# G#m
All the while, You hear each spoken need
    C#m B F#
Yet love is way too much to give us lesser things

Chorus
                    B
(Cause) what if your blessings come through raindrops
              F#
What if Your healing comes through tears
            G#m F# E
What if the thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
C#m B E (C#m - B - F# - E - F# - D#m)
What if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise

Verse 2
E F# G#m
We pray for wisdom
E F# D#m
Your voice to hear
E F# G#m A E
We cry in anger when we cannot feel You near
E F# G#m
We doubt your goodness
E F# D#m
we doubt your love
E F# G#m F#
As if every promise from Your Word is not enough
B E F# G#m
And all the while, You hear each desperate plea
    C#m B F#
And long that we'd have faith to believe

[Chorus]

Bridge
E F#
When friends betray us
G#m A
When darkness seems to win we know
E F# G#m F#
the pain reminds this heart That this is not
                 C#m - B - F# - E - F# - D#m
this is not our home
               B - F# - G#m - E - E- F#
it's not our home

Chorus 2
                     B
(Cause) what if your blessings come through raindrops
              F#
What if Your healing comes through tears
            G#m F# E
What if the thousand sleepless nights are what it takes to know You're near
             B
What if my greatest disappointments
       F#
Or the aching of this life
          G#m F# E
Is the revealing of a greater thirst this world can't satisfy
C#m B E F# E
What if trials of this life, the rain, the storms, the hardest nights
 (E)
Are your mercies in disguise

Outro: C#m - B - F# - E - F# - D#m - C#m - B - F# - E - F# - B

If you are playing this song with the guitar, it sounds really pretty with a capo on the 5th fret (and is much easier to play).
Here are the chords you would play with CAPO 4:

NO CAPO = CAPO 4
C#m = Am
B = G
F# = D/F#
E  = C
D#m = Bm
G#m = Em
A = D

Again, I hope you enjoyed this song, and that it can help you get through some of those trials of your life.

In God’s Love and Grace

Colton

This was very helpful for me as a starting point. For the piano, however, you want to do some tweaking to make it sound right. In the intro and interlude chords, walk the bass down, make the two Bs at the end of the verses and the B at the en of the chorus B/D#. E/F# on mercies then to Bsus B to go to the Bridge.
Also, I think the chords on the Bridge need some tweaking. This is what I’m hearing, but I could be wrong.
    E/C# B/D# E F# x 2
For keyboard walk the bass down again on home (intro part)
    Second home: E, F# G#m A E F#sus F#

Thanks for putting this up. It was helpful. 🙂

Very nice song. But then again, if you played this with capo on fret 5, you may as well as have chords in the key of C (which are below), which may be even easier yet.

    C#m = Dm
    B = C
    F# = G
    E = F
    D#m = Em
    G#m = Am
    A = Bb

when i heard this song…it gives intresting lyrics that i could apply in my life…

  • Ken October 27, 2011, 6:32 pm

This was extremely helpful! I really appreciate the capo key chart. It makes it so much faster to transpose, and the pianist can play it normal so I can expand on the acoustic.

You have it laid out very well, one of the best I have seen.

Peace and blessing in Christ Jesus!
    Ken

This song speaks reality, how true it is that we got a binch of prayers its days and whats blessing we knows that how we count. yeas its true as the song says ” And what if trials of this life are Your mercies in disguise”. that’s right far from those circumstances what we have, after that we found ourselves Oh i just did, i had make it!!! but the real thing, God let us get through on those to make us strong and a better person… He is here always with Us…. 🙂

“Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us.” -Romans 5:3-5 🙂

I knew this song was special when I heard it yesterday.
Today, when I listened and read the lyrics, my soul was shouting for joy as the lyrics I know are true for God’s love for all of us. We will sing this in our healing mass.
    Blessing to you too.

Thank you for posting this!! I heard this song a couple of days ago and I wanted to learn how to play it horribly! Plus I can’t read sheet music, so this is perfect. Thank you! God bless 😀

  • lo May 29, 2011, 8:30 am

do you have any piano sheets for this?

  • Colton May 27, 2011, 8:56 pm

@Jennifer Hooper: You would be playing the ones listed with the lyrics (C#m, B, F#, E, D#m…etc)

  • Jennifer Hooper May 27, 2011, 6:58 pm

So if I’m playing piano….what chords would I be playing?

  • Colton May 24, 2011, 1:46 pm

@BOBBY Thank you for catching that, I accidentally put Capo 5 when it is obviously not. Thank you for pointing that out!

  • BOBBY May 24, 2011, 12:18 pm

THE CHORDS ARE CAPO 4 ON THE GUITAR IN THIS VERSION. THE CHORDS WORKED… I JUST HAD TO MOVE MY CAPO 🙂

  • Colton May 20, 2011, 12:35 am

@jeff Thanks a bunch for the insight on the A chord. For some reason I couldn’t figure that one out…and it makes sense too. I made the change. Thanks for the melody as well, I’m sure many people will find it helpful.

  • jeff May 19, 2011, 9:55 pm

A# is really just A major, it makes a huge difference, other than that spot on 🙂 and just incase anyone was wondering the melody is

e-f#-d#-b-c#-g#-a#-b-b-a#-f# 2nd time thru it just repeats an octave lower but at the end the little riff is b-a#-b-f#

  • Ruby May 12, 2011, 5:01 am

It’s amazing how this song aptly put into words everything that I only have in mind.. So beautiful.. 🙂

  • heather joy May 11, 2011, 12:23 pm

I love this beautiful song. What a blessing.

  • sonny May 3, 2011, 4:48 pm

i love this song….how can we understand God’s Way?

just have faith that every thing He do and let Him happen has its purpose, probably its hidden yet..but faith tell us to wait till He reveal to Us…..We just need to rest on His ways and his side

  • Marcy April 25, 2011, 2:09 pm

these chords are perfect 🙂 except the A# should just be a natural A major chord..
I’m using this song for an audition – and it’s such a wonderful song 🙂 thank you for putting these chords up.

  • Scott April 20, 2011, 6:10 pm

Capo 4 should be used to match CD.
