Hello everyone, I am now adding a new category to L4J for my favorite quotes…or for quotes that I find that really impact me.
So today I will post my first favorite quote. It is one that has stuck to me for the past couple days by CS Lewis:
I pray because I can’t help myself. I pray because I’m helpless. I pray because the need flows out of me all the time, waking and sleeping. It doesn’t change God, it changes me. -CS Lewis
Wow…what a heart. What an awesome realization about prayer. I tell you the truth, I often pray with the intent of changing God’s mind. I believe during those times, I am completely off. I think CS Lewis put it perfectly here. Prayer doesn’t change God, it changes me.
Lets all try to apply this principle to our prayer lives. We should pray because we need to, just like we need to eat, and sleep, Knowing it is to change us, not God.
What do you think? Do you have anything you have learned about prayer you would like to share? Do you have a favorite quote that you would like to share with us? If so, please indulge us by leaving it in the comment form below!
I hope you all enjoyed this quote. If you did, be sure to check back for more and to share this with your friends as well by clicking the share or tweet buttons at the top of this page. I really appreciate it!
In God’s Love and Grace,
I was looking at some CSLewis quotes this morning and came across the one you quoted. Actually, I came across it several times! But then I came across this little tidbit…… http://www.essentialcslewis.com/2015/09/19/i-pray-because/ YIKES! Could it be? Have we be thinking we’re quoting Lewis but we’re really quoting Hollywood? I’m wondering if you have the reference for the book in which Clive said your above quote.
God can do anything and prayer can do anything God can do. Prayer is omnipotent. We should pray so that we could live. Without prayer we would die. Thank you for such an encouraging word brother 🙂
Such a profound and true quote! Thanks for sharing. Let’s keep praying because it changes US!! And because God really does answer prayer…
