The other day, I went to a youth service, and the message really touched me… I’ve been going through a lot of changes in my life recently, and I know the theme of my life right now is learning how to depend on God, and this message came at the perfect time. The Pastor read the passage Exodus 3:1-15, Moses and the burning bush, one my favorite scriptures I must add (If you are unfamiliar with the scripture, go ahead and read it…if you don’t have a Bible, just click on Exodus 3:1-15, that will bring you to it). In the scripture, Moses comes in direct contact with God. He enters a holy place where God speaks to Him from within a burning bush that does not burn up from the fire. Here God explains to Moses that He has heard the cry of His people, and it is time to set them free from the Egyptians, and God tells Moses that he (Moses) will be the one to bring them out of Egypt. And this is where the following scripture takes off:
11 But Moses said to God, “Who am I, that I should go to Pharaoh and bring the Israelites out of Egypt?” 12 And God said, “I will be with you. And this will be the sign to you that it is I who have sent you: When you have brought the people out of Egypt, you [a] will worship God on this mountain.” 13 Moses said to God, “Suppose I go to the Israelites and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ Then what shall I tell them?” 14 God said to Moses, “I am who I am . [b] This is what you are to say to the Israelites: ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” 15 God also said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites, ‘The LORD, [c] the God of your fathers—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac and the God of Jacob—has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, the name by which I am to be remembered from generation to generation.
This is an awesome scripture. Yeah, it shows the love God has for his people, and that He used Moses to do awesome things, yeah all that is awesome…but what that message focused on the other day, what I am focusing on now, is “I AM”. When Moses was doubting, God said, “I will be with you”, when Moses asked who he should tell Pharaoh is sending him, God said, “Tell them I AM has sent me to you”. Now “I AM” is a little confusing at first… I AM… I AM what?… Well what God is literally saying is that HE IS! HE IS literally the answer to anything in your life! In my life! If you need strength…He is saying, “I AM strength”….if you need love…He is saying, “I AM love”…. If you need joy…”I AM”…. etc, etc. HE IS everything you need! HE IS always sufficient! The word I AM in Hebrew is pronounced Yahweh. This is a huge part of us learning to surrender to God…once we realize that God IS sufficient, HE IS all we need, then can we truly begin our surrender to Him, because we will understand that He holds us, and has plans for us.
I promise you, I going through this process, just like many of you, and it is worth every moment of it. God will carry you through this situation you are going through, or that day you are dreading…HE WILL carry you through it all… just learn to let Him.
